Couple who visited Asda twice in one day sent £70 parking fine after being accused of staying at supermarket for 14 hours
The ticket stated Sarah Walton's vehicle had been in the town's Asda car park for 14 hours
Asda bosses have been forced to apologize to a customer who was wrongly sent a £70 parking fine after visiting a store twice in one day.
The ticket stated Sarah Walton's car was in the Grimsby supermarket car park for 14 hours.
In reality the vehicle was driven to the store twice that day - once briefly in the morning, and then again later at night.
Ms Walton was shocked when she got the fine, branding it is 'incomprehensible'.
She told the Grimsby Telegraph : "Even if you worked there you wouldn't stay 14 hours."
The alleged parking infringement took place on Thursday, December 7, when her husband had been driving the car, which is in her name.
He says that he went to the store in the morning just after 7am on his way to work to use the cash machine, driving in one end of car park and leaving through another.
Later that day he took his daughter shopping at the store at around 8.30pm and left just at around 9.10pm through the same junction he had used to enter the car park in the morning.
Mrs Walton believes that the ticket was the result of a new camera system that has been installed at the car park that monitors when you arrive and leave, but in this case, didn't pick up that her husband left after his morning visit, because he went out a different way.
She said: "I think that this is a massive joke, who would possibly want to leave their car in Asda car park for 14 hours."
She added: "Even if you were using it as somewhere to park while you were at work somewhere nearby, you aren't going to be there for 14 hours it is ridiculous.
"My husband has the information that shows when he clocked into work and when he clocked out, so we are able to prove that he has not left the car there for that length of time.
"I just would have thought it would have clocked onto someone that this must be a mistake."
Sarah has also leveled criticism at the way that Asda handled her complaint, saying that she was unable to speak to anybody about it several days.
However, Asda have now spoken to Ms Walton and apologized for the error.
A spokesman said: "We would like to apologize to Ms Walton for the mistake made by our parking operator and we are pleased that the fine has been cancelled."
