‘Buhari Deserves A Second Term’ – Communications Minister, Adebayo Shittu

Despite the fact President Muhammadu Buhari has not signified interest in seeking re-election in the 2019 Presidential election, the Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, on Wednesday, January 3, who rated the president’s performance high says he must run again. Shittu said this in an interview with State House correspondents shortly after a meeting he had with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The minister said those of them who he described as the President’s ardent supporters would prevail on him to seek re-election. He said they would help Buhari to make up his mind so that Nigeria can continue to enjoy stability and progress. Specifically on whether the President will contest, Shittu said, “It goes without saying. I mean if you have a child who goes to primary school and he does well; he proceeds to secondary school and he does well, and you keep asking if he will be going to university. Deadly storm Eleanor batters Europe

Three people have died as winter storm Eleanor swept across most of northern Europe, causing wide scale disruption. A skier died in the French Alps and 15 others were injured elsewhere in the country, four of them seriously. Two people were killed when they were swept away by a huge wave on Spain's northern Basque coast. The storm, which hit most of northern Europe after battering the UK, has also cut power to tens of thousands of homes and affected transport. Storm Eleanor is the UK's fifth named storm of the season.  In northern France, the storm cut power to more than 200,000 households and Eleanor is set to move to other regions throughout the day, including Corsica. Air travel was also disrupted in the capital, Paris, and in the east of the country. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower was closed because of the strong winds.
