Ekwueme:‎ Anambra Govt declares public holiday

As part of the funeral arrangements for the late Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme (GCON), Anambra State government has announced that there would be a state-wide public holiday on 1st February 2018. Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to Government of Anambra State announced this Sunday in a press statement made available to DAILY POST in Awka. The statement read, “Please note that Thursday, February 1st, 2018 is work free day in Anambra state. All markets and businesses will be closed on that day to enable Ndi Anambra, friends, associates and well wishers to pay our last respects to the late Vice President. “All those attending the commendation ceremony including various social, cultural, religious, political, professional, educational groups, market men and women, and all other groups are to be seated by 10am prompt at Ekwueme Square.” Ekwueme died in a UK hospital after a brief illness in November 2017

Heads to roll as FG investigates over 200 tax fraud tips(Nigeria)

FEDERAL Government says it has begun the investigation into over 200 whistle blowing tips on tax officials and taxpayers which involve under declaration of taxes as well as demand by taxpayers and receipt of gratifications by tax officials. The Government through the Federal Ministry of Finance has also commenced the process of sanitizing the tax administration and revenue collection system of dishonest operatives. Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja while presiding over the meeting of the Whistle blower Unit in the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA). A statement issued by media adviser to the minister, Oluyinka Akintunde explained that the sanitization of the tax administration and revenue collection system was part of the government’s efforts at enhancing the willingness of citizens to pay their taxes. Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad dies in Sweden at 91

The Swedish founder of the Ikea furniture chain, Ingvar Kamprad, has died at the age of 91, the company has announced. Mr Kamprad - who pioneered flat-pack furniture - died at his home in SmÃ¥land, Ikea confirmed in a statement. The company said that Mr Kamprad was "one of the greatest entrepreneurs of the 20th century". The billionaire, who was born in 1926 in SmÃ¥land, founded Ikea at the age of 17. He used some money his father had given him as a gift for performing well at school despite his dyslexia.  In the later years of his life, Mr Kamprad faced questions over his past links to fascist groups - something he admitted, but said was a "mistake". In a statement on Sunday, Ikea said that Mr Kamprad had "peacefully passed away at his home".
