The collapse of a bridge in Pittsburgh harmed ten persons.

Six vehicles, including a bus, were on the bridge when it fell in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

There have been no deaths reported. Officials reported ten people were injured, three of them were brought to the hospital with minor injuries.

On Friday morning, probably after 06:00 local time, the snow-covered Forbes Avenue Bridge gave way (11:00 GMT).

The building collapsed just hours before President Joe Biden was scheduled to speak about infrastructure in the region.

First responders deployed ropes longer than 100 feet and formed human chains to bring people to safety, according to Fire Chief Darryl Jones. There were also search dogs and drones on the site.

Daryl Luciani, a bus driver, and his two passengers were among those rescued from the gully created by the collapsed bridge. Mr Luciani stated that he was "banged up," but that he was not hurt.

"The bus was bouncing and rocking for what seemed like an eternity, but it was probably less than a minute before it finally came to a halt, and I was just glad that no one on the bus was wounded," he told WPXI-TV.

The incident "sounded like a large snow plough driving along the surface with no snow," a nearby resident told the KDKA-TV news channel.

After public safety officials confirmed they had to shut off a leaking gas line, residents have been warned to avoid the area.

The cause of the city-owned bridge collapsing is still unknown. It had been inspected as recently as September, according to Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, but a 2019 evaluation indicated its structure was degrading.

The 1970 steel bridge is a popular route for automobiles entering downtown Pittsburgh.

According to federal transportation experts, nearly 45,000 US bridges are in bad condition, with more than 3,000 in Pennsylvania.

President Biden signed a bill into law in November that includes $110 billion (£82 billion) to repair and construct roads and bridges.

Mr. Biden traveled to the collapsed bridge on Friday ahead of a planned address in West Mifflin, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) west of Pittsburgh, to extol the funding's benefits.
