Putin Has Already Committed War Crimes, According To Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson has accused Russia's Vladimir Putin of war crimes in Ukraine.

Bombing innocent civilians "already fully qualifies as a war crime," he declared at Prime Minister's Questions.

He was reacting to Ian Blackford of the Scottish National Party, who asked for Mr Putin to be prosecuted.

Following air strikes on Kharkiv, Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has already accused Russia of war crimes.

Attacks on key cities have intensified a week into Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with conflict occurring in the north, east, and south.

Boris Johnson branded the Russian military's operations under Putin's directives as "barbaric and indiscriminate" on Tuesday.

"The world is witnessing the atrocities of Putin's war in Ukraine with every passing hour," said SNP Westminster leader Mr Blackford. He demanded that Mr Putin be charged with the "full spectrum" of war crimes accusations that are possible.

"What we have already seen from Vladimir Putin's regime in the use of the munitions that they have already been dumping on innocent civilians, in my opinion, fully qualifies as a war crime," Mr Johnson responded.

"I am aware that the ICC prosecutor is currently conducting an investigation, and I am confident that the entire House will support this."

The International Criminal Court's prosecutor's office announced on Monday that it would seek court authority to launch an investigation into potential war crimes in Ukraine.
