The Director Of Black Panther, Ryan Coogler, Was Mistaken For A Bank Robber

According to a police complaint, the director of the smash superhero picture Black Panther was mistaken for a bank robber while attempting to withdraw money from his own account in the United States.

In January, Ryan Coogler was briefly detained after attempting to withdraw $12,000 (£9,100) from an Atlanta bank.

After misinterpreting the circumstances, the teller reportedly told her boss she feared an attempted robbery.

The "situation should never have happened," Mr. Coogler told TMZ in the United States.

Bank of America, on the other hand, has "worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction, and we have gone on," according to the 35-year-old.

According to the police report received by the entertainment website, Mr Coogler presented the teller a withdrawal form with a message requesting $12,000 from his checking account while wearing a covid face mask, sunglasses, and a hat.

The note further requested that the money be tallied someplace else, with the phrase "I'd want to be discreet" at the end. He also had identification on him. According to the New York Times, he informed officers that he was paying for a medical assistance who worked for his family and that he needed discretion because of the financial amount he wanted.

According to the newspaper, the teller, who is black like Mr Coogler, was pregnant and concerned about her safety at the moment.

Because the transaction exceeded $10,000, an automatic notification was sent, and the cashier informed her boss that she suspected a robbery, prompting the police to be dispatched.

The director, who is now working on the sequel to 2018's Black Panther, was briefly arrested and handcuffed before being freed after establishing his identity.

According to a spokesman for Bank of America, Variety in the United States reported: "We are really disappointed that this situation occurred. It should never have happened, and we apologize to Mr. Coogler."
