The Jets Of Oligarch Eugene Shvidler Were Grounded Indefinitely

The British government has seized private jets belonging to a sanctioned Russian businessman indefinitely.

For three weeks, the two jets belonging to billionaire oil mogul Eugene Shvidler were being investigated at Farnborough and Biggin Hill airports.

[Russian President Vladimir] "Putin's buddies" should not "enjoy luxuries" while innocent people die in Ukraine, according to Transportation Secretary Grant Shapps.

Mr. Shvidler was fined because of his connections to Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich.

Mr Shvidler, a former leader and shareholder in Mr Abramovich's steel business Evraz PLC, was linked to a person benefiting from or supporting the Russian government, according to the authorities.

It is now illegal for planes owned, operated, or hired by Russians to fly or land in the United Kingdom, even private jets.

Ukraine claimed it had dealt Russia "heavy strikes" and suffered "major losses."

However, Russia's army announced that the first phase of its military assault in Ukraine has over, and that it will now focus on the Donbas region in the east.
