Under A New UK Immigration Arrangement, There Will Be No 'Limit' On Refugees Fleeing The Ukraine Conflict
According to UN estimates, more than 2.5 million refugees have fled Ukraine since the invasion.
According to the government, there will be no limit to the number of Ukrainian refugees who can reside with UK host families under a new visa scheme.
The Homes for Ukraine refugee scheme is expected to benefit tens of thousands of displaced persons.
More information will be released later, before a website is launched to allow people to register their interest in assisting.
As a "thank you," the government will pay hosts £350 every month.
There will be "no cap" on the number of people who can be helped under the scheme, according to Health Secretary Sajid Javid.
The administration has been chastised for the pace and scope of its reaction to the refugee crisis sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, including by its own MPs.
People in the UK will be able to select a person or family to live with them rent-free or in another property for at least six months under the new scheme.
Mr Javid stated that migrants will be able to stay in the UK "for at least three years" once they arrive.
Their children will be able to attend local schools and have access to the NHS and other public services.
Local governments will also receive an extra £10,500 per refugee for support services, including more for school-aged children.
Host applications will be submitted online, and both hosts and refugees will be screened.
Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education, will make a statement in Parliament later today to provide more specifics.
When asked if he and his wife were considering hosting a Ukrainian family, Mr Javid said they were "beginning to have a talk" about it.
"Whatever I do on a personal basis, I will undoubtedly be assisting," he continued.
