four dead, four injured in shooting on Chicago's South Side
Four people are dead and 4 others are injured after an argument broke out and gunshots were fired at a home on Chicago's South Side early Tuesday morning, in accordance to police.
The shooting took place just before 6 a.m. in the Englewood neighborhood, police said. Detectives were investigating what led to the shooting. So far, no one has been taken into custody.
Three of the people killed were women, the fourth was a man, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown stated in a news conference Tuesday. It was not right away clear how old they were.
No juveniles were killed, however an unhurt 2-year-old girl was taken to the hospital "out of an abundance of caution," police said.
A 23-year-old man and a woman, her age unclear, have been taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in indispensable condition, police said. A 25-year-old man and a 41-year-old man had been taken to Christ Hospital in unknown condition, police said.
"We must acknowledge this for what it is – a tragedy that has ripped apart families and inflicted excessive trauma on various individuals," Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot stated in a press conference. "It tells us that we still have an awful lot work to do to quit gun violence here in Chicago and, in particular, to restriction the access of folks to unlawful guns."
