Republicans Rally Over A Possible Trump 2024 Offer As They Downplay His Role On Jan. 6

Nine months after the U.S. Capitol attack, Republicans in Congress defend Donald Trump's role on Jan. 6, "He'd have one widespread support from the party if he ran again for president in 2024. 

Republicans throughout the conference, including some who are vulnerable in next year's midterm elections or who have long been part of the party's mainstream wing, have little or no reservations on the possibility of Trump topping the list again.

Some GOP members cheer Trump's return, saying he remains a popular figure and a powerful force , and there is broad consensus among Republicans that Trump will be the automatic front runner and the prime his field would freeze if he decides to intervene. in alternating districts such as New Jersey MP Jeff Van Drew, they welcome Trump's possible return to the political struggle.
