Sir David Amess Tory MP Stabbed To Death
Tory MP Sir David Amess has died after being stabbed multiple times during surgery in his constituency of Essex.
Police said a 25-year-old man was arrested for murder after the attack on a church in LeighonSea. They have recovered a knife and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
An anti-terrorism team will investigate. Boris Johnson has expressed his shock and sadness at the loss of "one of the nicest people" in politics.
Interior Minister Priti Patel called on all police forces to review security arrangements for parliamentarians "with immediate effect", a spokesperson for the Interior Ministry said.
Sir David, 69, had been an MP since 1983 and was married with five children. She is the second sitting assistant to be killed in the past five years, following the murder of Labor MP Jo Cox in 2016. She was killed outside a library in Birstall, West Yorkshire, where she was scheduled to undergo a surgical intervention.
The investigation into the attack will be carried out by the Specialized Counterterrorism Command of the Metropolitan Police, which will determine whether it was a terrorist incident.
