As London Approaches 2 Million Cases, Boris Insists The UK Can Weather Omicron Without Shutting Down.

Boris Johnson said at a press conference on Downing Street that the UK had a "chance" to ride out the surge of Omicron illnesses without requiring greater isolation.

Another 218,724 daily Covid-19 cases have been registered in the UK, according to the Prime Minister.

Professor Sir Chris Whitty denounced "misinformation" regarding potential side effects from vaccines on the internet, "much of it purposefully placed," during the same briefing.

Meanwhile, non-urgent surgeries are reportedly being halted in Greater Manchester as NHS hospitals struggle to deal with rising demand.

Due to Covid-19, a number of NHS trusts around the UK have declared "serious events" due to personnel shortages and increased demands.
