Neil Corbel, A Detective Of The Metropolitan Police Service, Was Sentenced To Three Years In Prison For Voyeurism.
A Met Police counter-terrorism detective was sentenced to three years in prison for secretly filming models during bogus photoshoots.
In London, Brighton, and Manchester, Det Insp Neil Corbel committed his crimes in hotel rooms and Airbnbs.
He filmed women with cameras hidden in tissue boxes, phone chargers, and glasses. One model's life had been "totally ruined," according to Isleworth Crown Court.
The 40-year-old admitted to voyeurism on 19 charges.
In a victim impact statement, the model revealed that she has bald spots as a result of tearing her hair out due to stress.
Judge Martin Edmunds QC, in sentencing Corbel, referred to the impact statements he had heard, in which two more victims expressed their sorrow.
Corbel's actions, he claimed, had "seriously eroded trust in the police."
The officer, who was a diagnosed sex addict, claimed to be an airline pilot with a passion for photography, according to the court. He contacted many of his victims through PurplePort, an online organization that arranged photoshoots with them.
Sixteen of the women were Corbel's models, while three others were escorts or sex workers who agreed to sexual conduct but not to be filmed, according to the prosecution.
In 2019, a victim confronted Corbel after discovering a set of glasses with a charging port while giving him a massage.
After a woman got suspicious that a digital clock in a hotel room contained a camera, he was apprehended.
Because of the seriousness of the officer's crimes, which occurred between 2017 and 2020, the case was transferred to crown court for sentence.
"This incident has damaged every element of my life," the model said in court, describing her sorrow as leading her to rip her hair out.
"I used to take calculated risks, but now I decline offers."
"I've been in counseling since then." I experience panic episodes and feel paranoid and jumpy.
