Over Mask Row, An American Airlines Airliner Spins Around In Mid-Flight.

An American Airlines flight from Miami to London was forced to return due to a passenger's refusal to wear a face mask, according to the airline.

According to American Airlines, flight AAL38, which had 129 passengers on board, landed safely in Miami, where police were waiting.

According to reports, they removed a woman in her 40s from the plane.

According to American Airlines, she has been placed on a list of those who are prohibited from flying with the carrier pending further inquiry.

According to flight tracking firm FlightAware, the Wednesday jet turned around roughly an hour into its route.

Another passenger, Steve Freeman, told Miami's Local 10 television that the woman was sitting in first class.

"I was apprehensive since there was a lot of drinking involved. In first class, she sat behind us "he stated.

"I could see the writing on the wall - they had given her plenty of warnings, so we were prepared."

Passengers on the aircraft to Heathrow Airport in London were rebooked on a different route on Thursday.

"Everyone was surprised," one passenger told CBS affiliate WFOR-TV after alighting from the airplane on Wednesday.

Another traveler expressed her dissatisfaction.

"They wouldn't really say anything," she told the channel, "and I don't believe they told the flight attendants anything either, because all they could say was there was an intense situation with a passenger and they had to turn around."

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, airlines recorded over 6,000 cases involving rowdy passengers last year, with 151 in the first two weeks of this year. Passengers who refused to wear masks were involved in the majority of them.
