Ben Affleck's Father Says Hollywood Has Been ''Major Factor'' in Son's Drinking

Image
Timothy Affleck , the father of Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck , is sounding off in a rare interview, revealing that he believes that fame has taken a major "toll" on both of his famous sons. In new interview with Grazia , Timothy, who revealed that he's had his own battle against the bottle, said that he attributes many of his sons' issues, specifically Ben's well-documented issues with alcohol, to the gilded facade of Tinsel Town. Not mincing words, Timothy explained to the magazine, "Hollywood is a disgusting place. I think that's been a major factor in Ben's drinking. You're kind of forced to develop a persona that is hard to shed and go home to your family. It affects your whole life. I think that's one of the dangers of the film industry." In the interview, Timothy also attributed his own alcoholism to his son's problem with drinking. "I was a chronic, severe alcoholic for several years. I had to recover a

Drinking alcohol can clear brain waste, study finds

Image
If you're partial to a drink or two, you will love the results of a recent study; researchers have found that a "low" intake of alcohol may help to cleanse the brain. In a mouse study, scientists from the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) in New York found that drinking the equivalent to around 2.5 alcoholic drinks per day could reduce brain inflammation. It was also found to increase the function of the glymphatic system, which is responsible for removing waste products from the brain. High alcohol exposure, however, was found to impair glymphatic function and increase brain inflammation. Lead study author Dr. Maiken Nedergaard, of the Center for Translational Neuromedicine at URMC, and colleagues recently reported their findings in the journal Scientific Reports . It should come as no surprise that excess alcohol intake can harm health. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) report that alcohol is a contributor to "more than 2

Ways to attract the right partner

Image
How amazing would it be to find the perfect partner to spend your life with (or at least a long while), in absolute bliss? It’s not going to happen by some movie-moment magical events, so let me show you how you can take your love life into your own hands. A well-matched partner won't meet all of your needs. As there's no such thing as a perfect partner, you're shooting for about 85%.  This means that you may meet someone who ticks all the boxes except physically he's not quite what you imagined.  That's OK. As a product of this culture, you probably have a warped definition of attraction that could use some redefining anyway. Likewise, she may not be as socially adapt as you had imagined.  My point is that these aren't deal breakers, so while you're creating your vision list, it's absolutely essential to know that your future partner won't meet all of your desires and that you'll have to sacrifice somewhere.

Image
A hospital built under 20m (60 feet) of rock in a rebel-held part of central Syria has been wrecked by a powerful air strike, medical sources say. They say the hospital in Hama province - regarded as one of the best protected in the country - was put out of service by Thursday's strike. No casualties are reported but aid workers say it is the worst in a wave of attacks against hospitals in Syria. Meanwhile the UN says aid is no longer getting through to besieged areas. The Al Maghara cave hospital in the town of Kafr Zita was hit by five missiles in Thursday's strike, says the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM), an international coalition of medical charities. "It's widely believed to be the most secure hospital in Syria," UOSSM spokesman Avi D'Souza said. Mr D'Souza said the reason there were no deaths seemed to be that staff and patients left when they heard incoming jets. The group says the facility - which serve
