Sperm is Surprisingly Good for your Health!

It’s no secret that sex can give you some serious health benefits, it can actually help you live longer, it can help you relax, and it burns some serious calories (bonus points), but one element of sex that hasn’t seen much research is sperm and it’s benefits. And believe us, it has a lot more than you might have ever thought!

Semen is a Natural Anti-Depressant

A study carried out at the State University of New York in Albany showed that being exposed to sperm lowered symptoms of depression. 293 women were surveyed and those who were not using condoms showed much fewer signs of depression than those who were using condoms. The vagina can absorb components of semen that are beneficial to their health and they are easily detected in the blood stream. Obviously this does not mean to have unprotected sex with anyone, you are still at risk of pregnancy and STIs but if you are in a trusting relationship and have another form of contraception going bare-back is definitely worth a try!

It Helps you Sleep

After sex, you’re generally tired but the real reason you’re sleeping better? Semen contains melatonin. Melatonin is a chemical that induces relaxation and sleep and can actually be bought in the drug store as a OTC sleep aid. Whether you ingest it or receive it through sex, it will be in your bloodstream and help you have some sweet dreams!

It’s Full of Vitamins

Semen is laden with vitamin C, calcium, chlorine, citric acid, lactic acid, vitamin B12, zinc, and magnesium, among a lot more! Zinc especially helps to slow down the aging process and vitamin B12 is super important for energy levels!

It Lowers Prostate Cancer Risks (for him)

Regular ejaculation has been linked to a reduced risk of prostate cancer. By releasing semen on a regular basis (either alone or with someone) you can lower your risk of developing prostate cancer later in life!

It Could Become an All-Natural Fire Extinguisher.

Yep. An all-natural fire extinguisher! Research carried out at the Polytechnic University of Turin suggests that DNA present in semen could actually create flame-retardant materials. It could be an environmentally friendly way to protect people from fires. Well, I never!
