Patel Apologizes For Visa Delays In The UK For Ukrainian Migrants

Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, has expressed her "frustration" about visa delays that have stopped thousands of Ukrainian migrants from entering the UK.

Only 12,000 of the 12,000 Ukrainians given visas have arrived in the UK, according to Ms Patel.

The Homes For Ukraine scheme has been criticized by potential refugee sponsors for its bureaucracy and delays.

According to numbers released by the Home Office on Friday, the government has given 40,900 visas to Ukrainians fleeing the conflict.

The following visas were issued:

-28,500 were given out under the Ukraine Family Scheme, and 12,500 were given out under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme, which allows people to support Ukrainian refugees.

In terms of arrivals in the United Kingdom:

-10,800 people have arrived as part of the family scheme, and 1,200 have arrived as part of the sponsorship scheme.

"It's been excruciatingly frustrating. I apologise on behalf of myself, who is frustrated "Ms Patel stated.

"To be really honest, it has taken a long time. Any new scheme, any new visa system, takes time to develop."

Following Lord Harrington, the minister for refugees, who told parliament that "not enough" visas had been issued, Ms Patel is the second government official to apologize for the delays this week.

The figures in Britain are lower than those in comparable European countries.

The German government announced earlier this week that 300,000 Ukrainians had been approved, with 20,000 having landed in Ireland.

"Germany is a member of the European Union," Ms Patel stated. "They have no visa requirements and their borders are open."

"It's not a match made in heaven. We are an autonomous third nation, and we wish to provide individuals with the status and security of visiting us, as well as a warm welcome."
