Child Rights: Advocate Calls For Protection Of Children In Nigeria

Nigeria children

The Nigerian government has been advised to ensure the protection of every child as enshrined in the Constitution. This comes amid concern at the non domestication of the child's right at two thousand and three by 11 states in the country.

In 2003, Nigeria adopted the Child Right Act to domesticate the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Children's Rights Act of 2003 expands the human rights bestowed to citizens in Nigeria's 1999 constitution to children of this law was passed at the federal level. Only state assemblies can make it effective and also codify the law. Currently, 11 states are yet to domesticate the Child Rights Act.

This has raised concerns about the government's commitment to the protection of the rights of a child as enshrined in the Constitution. Child rights advocates also anime Umali is concerned about this and has expressed worry about the plight of the child.

The future of the Nigerian children are bright and therefore they must be protected from all forms of social vices, depriving them of their rights. Childhood is separate from my daughterhood and lasts until 18 years.

This is a special protected time where children must be allowed to grow, learn, play, develop and flourish with dignity. I come forth as a voice to the voiceless Nigerian children to say no to molestation, no to child abuse, and not to streetwalking.

She took time to analyze other issues affecting the African child, calling on the government to take steps to protect the African child.

We still need to help them to go over some phases in life with which they've won the gold, and we still need to understand them. And parents also need to evaluate their parent child relationships so that whenever children are around their parents, they can feel free to speak to them at any given point in time.

The theme for this year's celebration is Unite to Reverse the Impact of covid-19 Pandemic on Children. This highlights the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child that all children, irrespective of their status and situation, should enjoy their rights to survival and development as enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Child Rights Act 2003
