Biden to host Israel’s president for Oval Office Visit As Two Countries Set relationship
President Biden plans to welcome outgoing Israeli President Reuven Rivlin to the White House on Monday as the two nations are seeking to reset their relationship under new governments. The two leaders are set to meet in the Oval Office in the afternoon.
The White House stated Biden will meet with Rivlin at four p.m. EDT on Monday.
"President Rivlin's visit will highlight the enduring partnership between the United States and Israel and the deep ties between our governments and our people'" the White House stated in a statement.
Rivlin, who was elected to the generally ceremonial office in 2014, is expected to increase a wide variety of strategic military issues with Biden, including Iran, Lebanese Islamist militant crew Hezbollah and war in Gaza.
Israel is concerned about Iran's power over Hezbollah and the consequences that could leave on the entire region.
Israel and Palestinian militant crew and Hezbollah ally Hamas were locked in deadly war for eleven days in May in Gaza, during which hundreds of people were killed. Israel has bombed the Palestinian Authority in retaliation since.
