Senate To Vote On Moving Ahead On Vote Casting Rights Bill

The Senate votes Tuesday on whether to improve a sweeping vote casting rights package, with Republicans poised to use the filibuster to block the legislation. Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.), who opposes the bill as it is now, may still support this procedural step to begin debating it. Manchin has offered a compromise that has the assist of former president Barack Obama. The vote is expected around 5:30 p.m.


The White House, meanwhile, continues its behind-the-scenes push to secure a bipartisan deal on infrastructure and plans to invite senators to meet with President Biden to talk about it this week.


The president has a meeting in the afternoon with Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell to discuss how the agency is getting ready for natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and wildfires this summer.


Biden will additionally have a private lunch with Vice President Harris.
