Lightning Strike Kills At Least 11 People Visiting Famous Traveler Attraction

 A lightning strike killed at least 11 people and injured 11 more at a tourist attraction in Amer, India.


Indian officials responded to Amer Fort, a historic monument, on Sunday after a lightning strike hit the watch tower at the fort and many people jumped off in a panic, nearby newspaper The Hindu reported.


"When the lightning struck, the tower's wall collapsed, many people were buried under it. Since the fort is on a hill, when the debris was falling and space reduced, some people additionally fell into a ditch," Shankar Lal Saini, a senior catastrophe management official in Jaipur advised CNN.


Women and children were amongst the 11 pronounced dead when they arrived at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital and eleven others were were rescued and are in stable condition, Saini advised CNN.


BBC reviews some victims were taking selfies at the pinnacle of the watch tower in the rain when the strike happened.


Search efforts by officials continued till Monday morning to make sure everyone was accounted for.


"Because it is a hilly area and there are a lot of trees the rescue teams kept searching till morning in case anyone is left behind but now all people have been accounted for," Saini informed CNN.


Aljazeera reported 38 people died in 24 hours throughout two Indian states due to lightning strikes, including this incident.
