Mikel Obi Has left Stoke City

Kuwait Sporting Club have confirmed the signing of former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi on a one-year deal from Stoke City.

The deal was announced through the Twitter handle of Kuwait Sporting Club on Thursday.


“Welcome @mikel_john_obi,” the club posted on Thursday.


The 34-year-old had induced a one-year extension to his contract last month with the Potters, but opted out for a big-money deal with Kuwait Sporting Club.


Mikel made forty one appearances and supplied one help for Stoke City as they completed 14th in the English Championship last season with 60 points from forty six games.


Kuwait Sporting Club is his seventh career club since he moved to Europe in 2004, having featured for Lyn Oslo, Chelsea, Tianjin Teda, Trabzonspor, Middlesbrough and Stoke City.


Mikel made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea in an 11-year spell, which ended when he left Stamford Bridge in 2017.


He additionally gained two league titles, three FA Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League.


He was captain and one of Nigeria’s three over-age players as the U-23 facet won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
