Ghislaine Maxwell Was Found Guilty Of Assisting Jeffrey Epstein In The Exploitation Of Young Women
Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty of recruiting and trafficking young girls for the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse.
The 60-year-old was convicted of five of the six charges she was facing, including the most serious charge of sex trafficking a minor.
A 12-person jury in New York made the decision after five days of deliberation.
It means the British socialite could be imprisoned for the rest of her life.
The decision came after a month-long trial in which four women testified about being assaulted by Epstein between 1994 and 2004.
Maxwell showed no emotion as the verdict was read out on Wednesday, instead pouring herself a glass of water and sipping it twice.
Her legal team announced shortly after the verdict that they were already planning an appeal. Bobbi Sternheim, Ghislaine's lawyer, told reporters, "We firmly believe in Ghislaine's innocence."
"I am so relieved and grateful that the jury recognized [her] pattern of predatory behavior," Annie Farmer, one of the women who testified against Maxwell, said.
"I hope this verdict provides comfort to all who are suffering and illustrates that no one is above the law," she said.
Maxwell was found guilty of the following:
*A minor's sex trafficking
*Bringing a juvenile into the country with the goal of engaging in illicit sexual behavior
*Transporting kids with the goal of engaging in unlawful sexual activity
*A plot to engage in underage sex trafficking
*A plot to get kids to travel in order to engage in unlawful sex activities
She was found not guilty of enticing a juvenile to travel to participate in illicit sex activities on one count.
