Michael Smith And Peter Wright Are In The Final Of The PDC World Darts Championship.

At Alexandra Palace in London, Peter Wright and Michael Smith will compete in the PDC World Darts Championship final.

England's Smith defeated compatriot James Wade 6-3 in the opening semi-final match of the evening to reach his second world championship final.

Wright, of Scotland, won 6-4 over fellow countryman Gary Anderson to reach his third final.

On Monday, the final will be held at Alexandra Palace in London.

Wright broke Gary Anderson's record of 22 180s thrown in a world championship match with a new record of 24 180s thrown in any world championship tournament.

Wright, the world number two, won the opening three sets in the second semi-final of the night.

Despite a fantastic 116 checkout from Anderson to break Wright's throw in the opening leg of the second set, the world number two Wright, 51, won the first three sets of the match in what was the second semi-final of the night.

The match was more closer than the score indicated, with both players throwing high-quality darts, averaging just over 100 each.

Anderson, a two-time winner, came back from 3-0 down in the fourth set to break Wright's throw in the first leg and hold it with a double, double finish of 92 to win the set and cut the lead to Wright to 3-1.

Anderson, the sixth seed, won the fifth set 3-1 with a magnificent 105 checkout that hit the bullseye.

Anderson, the sixth seed, won the fifth set 3-1 with a spectacular 105 checkout, striking double tops with his first dart, and nailing bullseye on his second dart.

Wright, the current World Matchplay champion, nearly missed double 12 for a nine-darter in the second leg of the sixth set, but won the leg with 12 darts and broke Anderson's throw to win the set and take a 4-2 lead.

Anderson broke Wright's throw in the seventh set with an 11-dart leg to win the set and go within one set of Wright at 4-3.

In the eighth set, both players broke each other's throws, and Wright won the set with only 11 darts to go 5-3.

Last year's runner-up Anderson broke Wright's toss in the ninth set to win, but it was the 2020 world champion who kept his cool and threw a 116 checkout to win the match and seal his spot in the final.

Wright stated, " "Obviously, we had to strive to equal Michael Smith's performance against Gerwyn Price the day before. I wanted to outperform that match, and I hope the audience and viewers enjoyed it as much as I did."
