Rishi Sunak's Wife Reportedly Receives A £12 Million Income From A Russia-Linked IT Firm

Last night, Rishi Sunak was confronted with questions about his wife's fortune after accounts revealed that she earned millions of pounds in dividends from a company that is still active in Russia.

Akshata Murthy owns a substantial share in Infosys, the IT and consulting firm founded by her rich father.

Following the invasion of Ukraine, major consulting firms PwC, KPMG, and Accenture all left Russia, citing a desire to protest the Kremlin's war. Infosys, on the other hand, continues to operate in Moscow.

According to a Daily Mail investigation, Infosys paid two dividends in the last year that would have garnered Ms Murthy roughly £11.7 million through her 0.93 percent stake in the company.

The dividend is derived using Infosys' most recent financial figures, which were released in the United States.

It includes a payment of 15 Indian rupees per share, or 15p, announced in April of last year, as well as a second payment of 15 rupees announced in October. A few months later, the conflict in Ukraine erupted.

Ms Murthy, who married Mr Sunak in 2009, is one of Britain's wealthiest women, with a fortune that is said to be even greater than the Queen's.

Earlier this week, Sky News presenter Jayne Secker questioned the Chancellor about his wife's ties to Russia, asking: 'Are you giving advice to others that you are not following in your own home?'

'I'm an elected official, and I'm here to talk to you about what I'm accountable for,' said Mr Sunak, who had previously encouraged UK businesses to cut links with Russia to punish Putin. My wife is not one of them. That is not the case, in my opinion. As I already stated, all companies' operations are in their hands.'

Sunak denies any ties to his wife's IT company.

Given that he has cautioned firms to 'think carefully' about making any investments that will help the Moscow government, the Chancellor is now under even more criticism regarding his wife's stakes in Infosys.

Mr Sunak has'very significant questions to answer' over Ms Murthy's holdings, according to Labour.
