Following The Covid Test, The Queen Has Postponed More Engagements

Following The Covid Test, The Queen Has Postponed More Engagements.

Following a positive Covid test, the Queen has postponed engagements for the second time in a week.

The monarch, who tested positive for the illness on Sunday, will continue with "light duties," according to Buckingham Palace.

It was also announced that Thursday's virtual audiences will be rescheduled for a later date.

The Queen, who is 95 years old, also canceled virtual engagements on Tuesday, but she did have a phone meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday.

"Her Majesty continues to do minimal duties. There are no additional engagements planned for this week."

While on light duties, the Queen is expected to study documents provided to her every day from UK government ministers and Commonwealth representatives, approving and signing them as necessary.

The palace claimed in a statement announcing the Queen's positive test over the weekend that she was experiencing "mild cold-like symptoms."

A number of persons are believed to have tested positive at Windsor Castle, where the Queen resides.

The Queen's engagements have been canceled for the second time in three days. What level of alarm should there be?

The message from within the palace is 'stay calm and continue on,' implying that there is nothing to be concerned about.

"The two virtual audiences that were previously scheduled to take place today will now be rescheduled for a later date," a Buckingham Palace spokesman said.

Much of the fear stems from the fact that something like this happens so rarely - so rarely, in fact, that many people may have forgotten the Queen is 95 years old. Almost everyone else has ceased working at this age.

Especially if they have Covid, even if only with "moderate cold-like symptoms," as the palace describes it.

While many in the same situation would enjoy the chance to rest in a warm room with a box set and a hot drink, it is a credit to the Queen's tremendous sense of duty that she wanted to continue holding virtual audiences and engagements while ill.

Rather than accepting ambassadors' credentials, the Queen has chosen to concentrate on improving herself. The fact that anyone is surprised is surprising.
