Jerry Harris, The Star Of Netflix's Cheer, Has Admitted To Committing Child Sex Crimes

Jerry Harris could be sentenced to up to 50 years in jail.

In a federal sex abuse prosecution against him, Jeremiah "Jerry" Harris, one of the stars of the Netflix documentary series Cheer, has pleaded guilty.

Harris, 22, acknowledged to acquiring child pornography and traveling to another state with the intention of engaging in illegal sexual activity.

Since his arrest in Chicago in 2020, he has been placed in pre-trial detention.

The guilty plea was part of a compromise that allowed him to escape prosecution on five other federal offenses.

Harris' celebrity earned him an invitation to the Academy Awards, where he interviewed celebrities on the red carpet as a guest of TV host Ellen DeGeneres.

He pleaded guilty on Thursday to offering to pay a 17-year-old to give him sexually explicit images and to traveling to Florida with the intention of "engaging in illegal sexual activity" with a 15-year-old.

A complaint from a Texas mother alleging that Harris had harmed her two sons prompted the investigation.

"In order to put an end to a serial predator and protect other children, my sons bravely went public about the sexual abuse they suffered."

"Harris' admission of guilt today gives me hope that my sons' agony and grief as a result of speaking up have not been in vain."

A lawyer for his victims demanded that the US All Star Federation, Varsity Spirit, and Cheer Athletics be investigated to see if any workers "could have halted Harris' abuse and failed to do so."

Twin boys identified as Harris' victims reveal their reluctance to speak forward in the new season of Cheer, which premiered last month.

"I told him I was 13, and then he asked me right away, 'Can I get butt pics?' or 'Can you send butt pics?'" one of the lads explains.

One of the boys claimed he decided to speak up after watching then-presidential candidate Joe Biden's 2020 campaign talk with Harris.

"I want to show the world, to give them a face to think of when they think about Jerry Harris," the child explained.

Harris admitted to exchanging sexual images with 10-15 youngsters he knew were underage in at least three states, according to prosecutors.

The charge of child pornography entails a minimum of five years in jail and a maximum of twenty.

The offense of illegal sexual conduct carried a potential punishment of 30 years in prison.

On June 28, he will be sentenced.
