Ivanka Trump Speaks Before The House Of Representatives' Riot Committee
Ivanka Trump, a former White House adviser, spoke for hours before a congressional committee probing the 6 January attack on the US Capitol on Tuesday.
Ms. Trump, who is 40 years old, was questioned about her father's actions as the crisis evolved.
She is alleged to have been one of several advisers who tried to persuade the president to condemn the violence.
Her attendance comes only days after her husband, also an ex-White House aide, Jared Kushner, met with investigators.
According to allegations in the US media, the questioning lasted up to eight hours. According to the panel's senior chairman, unlike other witnesses questioned before the committee, Ms Trump never attempted to use her right to remain silent.
Rep. Bennie Thompson stated, "She's addressing questions." "Not in a broad, conversational sense, but she's responding to inquiries."
The committee has also subpoenaed White House papers from Mr Trump's meetings and actions on January 6th, although documents obtained by CBS News indicate no presidential contact for more than seven hours throughout the climactic confrontation in the Capitol.
Multiple accounts of presidential phone calls to Republicans in the US Capitol, including a furious discussion with House minority leader Kevin McCarthy, contradict this. Ms. Trump might be able to give some light on how her father communicated that day.
Mr. Kushner's testimony was hailed by one Democratic member of the committee as "useful" in reconstructing the events of the day.
